Teaser: The young man furrowed his brow in fear and want, want for escape. His drenched white t-shirt was almost transparent as it clung to his frame, the material taking on more of his skin color than its true pigment. Navy jeans gripped his legs tenaciously, the rain soaked into the interwoven threads and making the material unbelievably heavy, dragging the young man down with the effort of continuing. But he had to continue, had to... He lurched to his feet and into a half hearted run, his legs moving on the pure need he felt from deep within, to get away. From what? Brilliant, almost blinding, crimson red lightning flashed across the black sky, causing the figure to veer away and stumble yet again, his hands thrown up in front of his face in reflex. He stood bent over at the waist and to the side, arms now folded over his face in fear as he waited for the pulsating light to evanesce, to fade away. As the darkness returned, he waited, knowing what came next. The almost musical melody of the pounding rain assaulted his hearing as he waited, his form still and rigid with fearful anticipation. An earsplitting, ravenous explosion rocked through the street, the very walls of the buildings around him seeming to shake with its intensity. His pale hands clamped over his ears, eyes shut tight and teeth clenched as he fell to his bruised knees. The rain became a catalyst of water, sluicing down on the lone figure as he begged with the force that he couldn’t begin to comprehend. “Please, go away!” His usual voice of a soft and saccharine note, came out hoarse and vacant, pleading in its tone, “Please... I can’t take anymore! ... I beg you, please... leave me alone!” The white light, outlined in the fiery red, sliced across the heavens once more, illuminating the street the young man huddled in, lost in a broken state. The air surrounding the figure cracked and sizzled, the air electrifying and causing the man to crumple to the wet ground, crying out in pain. The roar came yet again and rocked the very ground he laid on, writhing in agony as the onslaught continued to assault his defenseless form. Broken cries came from the suffering form in a stammering string, “No... God, please, somebody help me... I-... No more, I-... I can’t... I jus’ can’t... Stop... ...no more...” |
